Ian McKellan as Gandalf The White is much easier to draw than Gandalf the Grey, as there's no need to try and negotiate that blasted great hat he is wearing.
It is possible that Ian McKellan, who played the character, felt the same way.

Owen Wilson
I Shagged the Work Experience Girl
I have returned from my stint in Hobart.
The hotel they put us up in was a hovel.
We trashed the place before we left.
Well not trashed so much are reorganised.
We shoved some towels into the fridge and put a chair in the sink and so on.
Cartoonist trashing.
Trashing that is peculiar rather than destructive...

At Long Last The Day Ends
Goodie, Goodie, Yum, Yum
The Goodies was a comedy show from the UK during the 70s and 80s.
Anyone who grew up in Australia and the UK will certianly know of them.
I don't feel especially inclined to go into much detail about who or what they were at the moment.
If anyone is interested, ask away and I'll answer you as much as I can be arse in the talkback.
Cheers!

I have been rattling on about my dear friend who had her first baby last Tuesday.
During her time in hospital she has dealt with many, many nurses - some great, some awful, and then in a whole new category was a woman called Alida Mollenschot.
She was a vast currant bun of a woman.
The very first thing she said when she sat down was an apology for having put on a bit of weight recently and a further apology that her pants were a little long.
Then she played havoc with the machine that measures your blood pressure (she has one at home she prefers, hence the drawing of her wearing one).
She had an extremely high squeaky voice and was so comical that I thought I may have to leave the room.
I didn't.
Instead I questioned her on her favorite kind of blood pressure machine.
She had a funny habit of finishing your sentences, but with song lyrics.

More real work

YES
Two days in a row you get real life, hand drawn artwork.
This is pen and ink on hot press fabriano paper (the yummiest of smooth watercolour papers).
It was done during a difficult time in my life when I needed something positive to work on.
It was inspired by a story John Lennon told about meeting Yoko that I enjoyed.
Yesterday I managed to beat my framing people down from $2500 to only $995 and, as it's tax time, it means I should be able to afford to get all the pieces I want done, which means in turn that I should be able to exhibit again this year.
How nice!

For Charmaine
Every year, in a celebration of the yuletide season I paint a picture of Santa.
I make him a bad tempered Billy-Bob style Santa.
My intention was not to upset people, but perhaps to cause a little distaste (I think people feeling unpleasant is far more interesting than offending them).
So - this is last years Santa.
I have never had a single complaint, which I have to say irks me just a little bit.
I did an easter bunny one year which was simply dreadful, but no-one batted an eyelid...
Monty Python's Flying Jesus
The picture on the left is Bella Lugosi.
It's a picture that's been doing the internet rounds recently - he's playing Jesus Christ in a play during the early part of last century.
It struck me how much he resembled Terry Jones of Monty Python fame.
I had trouble locating a much better picture than this, but I think the similarity is there.
So...we have Bella Lugosi playing Jesus Christ looking just like Terry Jones who once played mother to someone who was a bit like Jesus (Mandy in the Life of Brian).

Cheating
I have to confess I've been cheating a little bit recently and double posting.
I posted this caricature of Jack Black on drawingboard.org and now I'm leaving it for you here.
It's kind of like re-using Christmas cards, so I feel a little grubby...

Elvis Costello again
Greetings Team!
Good morning everyone!
I have returned from the nicest weekend I've had in approximately a billion years.
I had an old pal visit from interstate and we drank wine and watched movies and had a really easy fantastic time.
Hooray for me.
I also saw War of the Worlds which was really frightening and really good.
I'm feeling jolly and refreshed.
My dear friend is having her baby tomorrow.
I've done some nice drawings and had some positive feedback from other illustrators regarding my posts on drawingboard.org and all is great!
