Exceedingly Silly

Silliness of the highest order.
This is the only piece of my high school art that remains, and I've only just worked out that in 2 years it will be 20 years old (oh. my. god...)
I only did two years of art and this sort of nonsense may be the reason why.
I remember having tears pouring down my face as I did it.
I thought it was hilarious.
It's essentially 50 odd pages of scribble.
This is the front cover.
For those who can't read it, it says "The Grate Bycentenial Rad Art Book Wich is Good" (spelled wrong on purpose).
It was Australias bicentenial at the time - 1988.

A page from the book - it was all done in wax crayon.

It included several centrefolds, here is a portion of one of them.

Another page.

And there was a free ice cream container lid jammed in the middle.

I am hugely fond of silly things and this is perhaps the silliest thing I've ever done.
I remember it with great fondness however and it's a miracle I've still got it (I tend to throw out all my work every couple of years when it's old and embarassing).

That is cool, silly and cool. Now get it printed up and get Oprah to endorse it and you're set.

She can drag you on her show and berate you and the book sales will skyrocket.

-Why, oh why, "Walls" (Ice Cream) is called "Streets" in Oz?
-What is "Olde English" Vanilla?
-Who is more powerful, the tiger or the lion?
-God or Superman?
-Cool or awesome?
-Can men and women be "just friends"?

Mik - that's not a bad plan after all.

All sorts of stuff here is different Oscar.
Instead of icecream we have a thing called beer.
And instead of god we have beer.
We have neither lions or tigers in this wide brown land.
Neither is as powerful as a thing we have called a horse (a horse is similar to a fish).
Men and woman can indeed be friends but only when there is lots of beer involved.
If you have any other questions about our nation please feel free to ask.

Ahh. ART!
HHmmmm...
aaahh...
I can feel the pain- the inner struggle of the artist.. it's a post modernist statement on the tormented vanilla soul. Big heaps of chocolate mounted on plates of self deprecation.
Vile I tell you, VILE!
EXPRESSION! I love it!

And I love you too Boris.
