Darjeeling

Last night we went to see the new film by Wes Anderson, the feller who directed The Royal Tennenbaums and Rushmore, among others.
It's called The Darjeeling Limited and is about 3 idiot brothers traveling through India together.
It was very silly and very entertaining.
The film had nothing to do with pussy cats but there is a funny bit with a deadly snake.

I'm really looking forward to that-I love Anderson's films especially TENENBAUMS. What was the short, HOTEL CHEVALIER, like? I tried to see it on i-tunes but it's only available to US 'viewers'.

Interesting that Anderson's next flick will be stop-mo animation.

You'll enjoy it, I'm sure.
It's very light and very silly and if you like his other movies there's no reason you won't like this.
The short is neither great nor shit.
It kind of plays like a scene they cut out of the movie but I gather it isn't.
It does have Natalie Portman's naked arse which is always a nice thing.

And yes - he worked with Henry Selick on The Life Aquatic so it's nice to see him doing more animation.
I gather he's a very anal film maker who plans everything to the the t, so perhaps animation is a good medium for him to work in.

Yes-his films have seemed very measured & controlled with perfect compositions but if you watch the 'making of' clips on DARJEELING shooting in India looked like it forced him to 'free up' a little-did it have this effect on the film?

Hmmm.
I'd say the acting style is more freewheeling as the chemistry between the the three leads is very good.
It's warmer/friendlier in tone than his other films - it certainly feels lighter.
It's much sillier than his other films too, but in a nice way.
Fact is his directorial style is pretty much the same as ever - lots of left to right and up and down.
The majority of the film takes place upon the train in small compartments and it kind of suits it anyway.
