Brokeback Mountain 2: The Sequel
Below is the first animated commercial I ever made by myself.
I'm not especially proud of it (there's some rotten animation in parts) but the transitions are nice, and the kind of thing I'm good at.
I had 2 days to bash it together - I animated it over an evening and did the inbetweening over the next day (which is why it looks like a pencil test).
If you've seen any of the others you'll note the character has changed quite a bit.
Many people assume it's myself providing the VO.
In fact it's a local magician and balloon sculptor called Geoff Hayes.
I post this image to counterbalance the peculiar image above.
(edit - I've just rewatched it for the first time in years...it's not tooooo bad I guess).

I like it! do you still have time to animate Elliot?
Thanks Stef - you saucy Frenchman.
My main aimation over the years has been this character, and when I changed stations I unfortunately had to leave him behind.
I do have time for it but haven't done any real animation in some time.
The "Brokeback Mountain" sequel will do well with the guys, to be sure!
The animation is fun to watch. My fave is when the top half of the character's head turns, leaving the bottom half in place. Uh, does that make sense? Probably not.
It's still cool.
Red! - thanks for that.
I know exactly the point you mean and I went through it frame by frame yesterday and that amused me also.
As for Brokeback Mountain joke, I am quite sure that at some stage some executive said something like "Well this film is about two cowBOYS who fall in love....how's about we make it about two cowGIRLS who fall is love?...".
cool man, haha, yes transitions can absolutly be the most fun and most abstract creations in doing animation. Abstract images are pure gold. Nice on man.
Oh cheers Don, very kind.
I'll never win any awards for my animation skills but I've got some good ideas I like to think.
The drawing of the girl at the top of these postings is a beauty!
This animated piece is pretty cool. Especially considering you did it in two days! It's effective, watchable and entertaining. It gets it's point across too. Congrats!
Also: thanks a big bunch for the cheering comment on our post, Elliot!
Tis a great commercial Elliot! Unhappy girl, somehow, makes me happy. Very lovely sketch.
Oscar - thank you as always.
Doodlers - big thanks to you also.
This was the first animated commercial I ever tackled on my own after leaving the studio I was working at.
Claude - I like the way you draw EVERYTHING man.
Smook - Cheers mate. On drawingboard there's a big culture of drawing sexy, sexy girls but I can't bring myself to do it.
I feel compelled to make them cranky or bad tempered or something other than wanton...
Happy new year to you and your blog...talent artist AND animator!!!
Really nice sense of character in this.
Hope all is good, speak soon.
Ha - cheers Andy.
The animator title is a little enthusiastic but it's nice of you to take the time to say so.
Cheers bud.
